| Uncontrolled hyperglycemia in critically ill patients can increase the risk of bloodstream infections and lead to acute renal failure, prolonged inflammation, polyneuropathies, and even death. Recent research has shown us that although tightly controlling glucose may have the potential to cause further harm, achieving a careful balance of intravenous insulin and nutrition to avoid glycemic extremes can improve outcomes. |
