Dan Horvat, MD, MCFP, BSc Dan has a long standing interest in sustainably improving healthcare. His experience includes roles such as family physician, medical administrator, academic, regional health board member and consultant. His interest in health system improvement has led him to explore the local and international community in search of best practices. A focus of his research involves distilling the key, context independent activities that support highly effective healthcare systems. Dan has also worked extensively in areas including primary care and the use of measurement and information technology in improvement.

Dr. Martin Wale, BMed Sci, BM BS, Martin joined VIHA after leaving the NHS (UK) in May 2009 to take his current position with responsibilities of an Island-wide portfolio including quality and patient safety, infection prevention and control, accreditation, privacy and ethics. He was awarded a Fellowship scheme at the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvement while working on patient safety and Clostridium difficile associated disease (CDAD). Martin achieved Distinction in his Executive MBA in 2008 and became responsible for all aspects of medical performance in a large acute Trust servicing three health regions in the NHS as Executive Medical Director.

Andrew Wray, BSc Andrew is responsible for the development of learning opportunities in quality and patient safety, as well as supporting work towards improving relationships and communication between patients, families and healthcare workers. In partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health and Providence Healthcare, Andrew helped introduce the Global Trigger Tool to health authorities in BC and maintains a Community of Practice for continued collaboration. Prior to joining the Council, Andrew spent several years working in the biotechnology industry, the BC Cancer Research Centre and most recently, the BC Ministry of Health Services where he focused on infection prevention and control.

Linda Dempster, RN, MA Linda has a long standing interest and involvement in improving the quality of care. Linda led one of BC’s first sites to systematically implement the use of the Global Trigger Tool. She has also led work on implementation of SBAR as a communication tool. Her interest areas include infection control, high reliability organizations, and the link between patient and staff safety. A member of the Canadian Patient Safety Institute’s Education and Professional Development Advisory Committee, Linda has BSc in Nursing and a Master of Arts in Leadership.

Dermot J. Kelly, MSc. CEBT Director, Quality & Patient Safety / Infection Prevention & Control Vancouver Coastal Health - Richmond For the past two years Dermot has been responsible for supporting the strategies and leadership of clinical quality and patient safety within the Richmond Community of Care and helped in leading a very successful Qmentum survey. Prior to this, Dermot was very involved in tissue banking within VCH and served as the VCH Quality Coordinator for Tissue Banking. In this role he was responsible for developing and implementing quality management systems for tissue banking as well establishing centralized models to ensure a method for effective delivery of quality tissues. Dermot has a BSc in Physiology and an MSc in Cardiovascular Electrophysiology and is a graduate of Cohort 1 of the Quality Academy. |

Holly Boudreau, CHIM, CRM Regional Manager, Decision Support Tools Northern Health Authority
Holly has been responsible to develop and implement a planning and process guide for Decision Support Tools (DSTs) in Northern Health. In this capacity, she directs and oversees the operationalization of Northern Health’s Regional Decision Support Tools (policy, procedure, guidelines and protocols), working closely with both clinicians and administrative staff. Holly is skilled at leading policy advisory groups in the development and establishment of standards and guidelines and is a member of the provincial hand hygiene policy sub-working group. In her role, Holly is also responsible to actively participate in the development and delivery of a Quality Curriculum that is to be provided to all staff in Northern Health. She holds a Canadian Risk Management Designation and a Health Records Administrator Designation. She is an active member of the Canadian Health information Management Association (CHIMA) as a Member of its Policy Subcommittee. Holly is a graduate of Cohort 1 of the Quality Academy. |
