Council Members
The Council consists of seven members – the Chair (the BC Patient Safety & Quality Officer), four additional members, and two ex-officio members: a Ministry of Health Services representative and the UBC Academic Chair for Patient Safety. The Chair and four additional members are appointed by the Minister of Health Services. The Council is supported by a small Secretariat based in Vancouver. Council members will generally be members of the public with expertise and experience in patient safety and quality improvement, quality measurement and accountability.
Council members are eligible to serve terms of up to two years, and may be reappointed to consecutive terms at the discretion of the Minister of Health Services.
The Council operates at arm’s length from government, but is ultimately accountable to the Minister. The Chair reports quarterly to the Minister on the work of the Council or as required by the Minister to address emerging safety and quality issues.
