Katie joined the BC Patient Safety and Quality Council as Quality Leader, in September 2009, and is responsible for the Council's support and participation in the Canadian Positive Deviance (PD) project as well as the Evidence to Excellence (E2E) Collaborative. Katie is also the leader and primary liaison for Safer Health Care Now (SHN) initiatives throughout the province.
With the BCPSQC Quality team, Katie has assisted with the creation of the BCPSQC Quality Academy, an exciting education program in Health Care Quality, which launched in September 2010. Katie’s role has expanded to include Quality Leader for the Clinical Care Management (CCM) areas of Sepsis and Hand Hygiene.
Prior to joining the BCPSQC, Katie has been focused on quality and process improvement, and patient safety in the Emergency Department at St. Paul’s Hospital. She has 35 years of experience in many areas of health care, including: hospital, community, mental health, and rural settings.
Since September 2007, Katie has supported the E2E Provincial Emergency Department project as faculty and as part of the executive team providing leadership, facilitation, coaching, and mentoring to over 200 members and over 40 teams in improvements in ED/Hospital flow and Sepsis. Katie also provides coaching and support to the two BC hospitals in the Canadian Positive Deviance project, is a National coach with Safer Healthcare Now (SHN) New Approach to Controlling Superbugs (NACS) (www.stopsuperbugs.com) as well as helping to initiate Positive Deviance projects with interested organizations.
Katie is currently completing her Bachelor's in Psychiatric Nursing at Thompson Rivers University. She has also completed a Project Management course with Langara College, and an Advanced Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing at Douglas College.
