Juan Ronco

Dr. Juan J. Ronco joined the Council in March 2011, as the Clinical Lead for the Care of Critically Ill Patients.

Dr. Ronco obtained his medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1980. He completed first his postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, Critical Care Medicine and Respiratory Medicine at the University of Buenos Aires. He then moved to Canada where he revalidated his training by completing his Internal Medicine residency and Critical Care Medicine fellowship at the University of British Columbia in 1994. He received further post-graduate training in research and respiratory medicine at the University of Texas (Houston) and the University of British Columbia.


Dr. Ronco is a Clinical Professor of Medicine in the Divisions of Critical Care, Respiratory and Internal Medicine. He is an Associate Director in the Intensive Care Unit at the Vancouver General Hospital and former Medical Director of Respiratory Services at Vancouver General Hospital, and former Director the Adult Critical Care Training Program at UBC.

His interests include clinical care and teaching in Critical Care Medicine and Respiratory Medicine and research interests in mechanical ventilation, acute lung injury, tissue oxygenation, sepsis and metabolism in critical illnesses.
