Craig Bosenberg
Dr. Craig Bosenberg joined the Council as the Surgical Checklist/SSI Clinical Lead. Dr. Bosenberg graduated from the University of Cape Town, in South Africa with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB). After a few years practicing in the townships of South Africa, he decided to pursue a career in anesthesia and completed his residency in 2000, in Cape Town. During both his student years and residency, he was involved with, and led, various student, physician and resident organizations.
In 2001, Dr. Bosenberg moved to the UK, where he completed a fellowship in cardiac anesthesia at the Harefield Hospital, London.
He, and his wife, immigrated to Canada in 2002, where he joined the Regina Quappelle Health Region until March 2009. While in Regina, he became the Head of Anesthesia where he established and lead the OR Safety Committee for the region, which began implementing the World Health Organization (WHO) checklist, as well as working on implementation of the Surgical Site infection Projects in the region.
Dr. Bosenberg’s main interests lie in the fields of patient safety, leadership, human factors and organizational behavior. He has been on the staff of the Vancouver Island Health Authority since April of 2009, where he is actively engaged in quality improvement.
