Christina Krause brings a variety of health care experience to her role as Executive Director.  In addition to supporting quality and safety initiatives within British Columbia, Christina also shares her knowledge and expertise with a number of regional and national organizations, including the Canadian Patient Safety Institute and the Western Quality Organizations Committee. She is also the Chair of the BC Quality & Safety Director’s Network.

Before joining the Council, Christina was the Safety & Improvement Advisor for the Western Node of Safer Healthcare Now! and the BC Patient Safety Task Force. Prior to this, Christina was the Quality and Safety Lead with the Health Quality Council of Alberta (HQCA). During her time with HQCA, she was involved in leading the development of the provincial framework, Disclosure of Harm to Patients and Families and was certified as Faculty with the US Institute for Healthcare Communication to deliver the workshop Disclosing Unanticipated Medical Outcomes.  In addition to her work in disclosure, Christina has led initiatives in medication safety, specifically opioids management and prohibited abbreviations as well as supporting quality improvement teams enrolled in the national patient safety campaign, Safer Healthcare Now!

Christina’s research and writing on issues affecting patient safety and quality have been published in numerous journals and publications. She has also been invited to speak at a number of Canadian and international conferences and meetings.

Christina holds a Masters in Science in community health and epidemiology from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Bachelor of Home Economics in family science and nutrition from the University of British Columbia. She is also an EXTRA Fellow with the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation.
